Veteran's Day
VETERANS DAY - November 11, 2020 This observance day commemorates the end of major hostilities of World War I at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. Begun as Armistice Day in 1919, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed legislation changing Armistice Day to Veterans Day, "a day dedicated to world peace," in 1954. The day honors all veterans of the U.S. armed services. Everyone in the Goodman-Armstrong Creek School District wishes to thank all of its veterans for their service to our country.

Parent-Teacher Conferences GAC will not hold in-person conferences. Elementary teachers have already started to contact parents individually and will continue to do so over the next few days. Parents of middle/high school students are asked to contact your child’s teachers to set up conferences by emailing them directly or calling and leaving a message on their school extension. All staff is looking forward to connecting to our families and celebrating the growth and goals of our students.

We look forward to re-opening school on Monday, October 26th! We ask for your help once again in keeping everyone safe and healthy in our schools. Before leaving for school, please make sure to complete the following screening. The following symptoms may indicate a possible illness that could decrease your child’s ability to learn and put them at risk of spreading illness to others. Symptoms *Temperature 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher when taken by mouth *Sore throat *New uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing (for students with chronic allergic/asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline) *Diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, or abdominal pain *New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever If the answer is YES to any of the symptom questions please keep your child(ren) home from school. Use the attendance calling protocol to report the absence to our school district. Call 715-336-2575 to report the absence and indicate what symptoms your child has which prevents them from attending school. Close Contact/Potential Exposure: In the past 14 days has your child: Had close contact (within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes) with a person with confirmed COVID-19: OR Had close contact (within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes) with a person under quarantine for possible exposure to COVID-19; OR Had a travel history outside of the immediate area. If the answer is YES to any symptoms question and YES to any close contact/potential exposure question, call the school as soon as possible to let them know the reason your child(ren) won’t be there today. Call your healthcare provider right away. If the answer is YES to any of the symptom questions, but NO to any close contact/potential exposure questions, your student may return based on the guidance for their symptoms as follows: *Fever: at least 24 hours have passed with no fever, without the use of fever-reducing medications *Sore throat: improvement (if strep throat: do not return until at least 2 doses of antibiotic have been taken); *Cough/Shortness of breath: improvement *Diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain: no diarrhea or vomiting for 24 hours *Severe headache: improvement/no lingering headache DISCLAIMER: This screening tool is subject to change based on the latest information on COVID-19. Source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; Screening K-12 Students for Symptoms of COVID-19: Limitations and Considerations. The following additional measures will be taken to further provide a safe educational environment for everyone while at school: GAC Elementary School When possible and weather permitting windows will be opened for fresh air flow. Internal doors will remain open for air circulation. The wearing of face coverings will continue to be required with scheduled “mask” breaks. When students are lining up we will maintain distancing to the extent possible. Teachers move, not students: Grade ½ and ¾ students will remain in their assigned room while teachers will move for instructional purposes. Art and Music, other than band, will go to the regular classroom as scheduled. When in physical education class students will wear face coverings unless outside and social distancing can be achieved. Separate playground areas will be assigned by class. Equipment will be sanitized frequently to the extent possible. Hand washing when going outside and when coming back inside will take place. Equipment and device sharing will be minimized and eliminated when possible. Commonly and regularly touched surfaces will be sanitized frequently during the school day. GAC High/Middle School When possible and weather permitting windows will be opened for fresh air flow. Internal doors will remain open for air circulation. The wearing of face coverings will continue to be required with scheduled “mask” breaks. When students are lining up, maintain distancing to the extent possible. Lunchroom: When in line for lunch may be less than 6’ when students are in the same cohort (class group). Students will no longer be permitted to eat in the hallway. Students (2) may be seated on either end of the benches in the hallway. In the lunchroom maintain spacing at tables as has been done to date. Equipment and device sharing will be minimized and eliminated when possible. Commonly and regularly touched surfaces will be sanitized frequently during the school day.

For Immediate Release Media verification: Marinette County EM 715-732-7666 October 19, 2020 RE: WI National Guard Recurring COVID-19 Test Site In Marinette County (Marinette County, WI) In response to the surge in COVID-19 positive residents and reduced capability of testing in Marinette County, Marinette County Emergency Management and Public Health have requested assistance from the WI National Guard. The National Guard will be providing drive-through style COVID-19 nasal swab testing in Peshtigo. The scheduled dates are October 23, November 6 and 20, and December 4, 2020. Time is from 8am to 4pm. The event will be located at the Marinette County Highway Shop, 501 Pine St., in the City of Peshtigo. Dates are subject to change based on need of testing squads throughout the State. COVID-19 testing will be performed on people 5 years of age and older who have been notified that they are a close contact to someone who tested positive for COVID-19 (and is 5-7 days after their contact with them) or is experiencing at least one of the following symptoms: fever, cough, loss of taste/smell, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, sore throat, body aches, fatigue, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, chills, or muscle aches. Testing is provided on a first-come first-served basis. Due to the unknown amount of interest, prepare for potential wait times. Participants must remain in their vehicles at all times and no public restrooms are available. New to the testing site is the ability to register from a smartphone while waiting in line. A QR code will be available to scan which leads to a registration site. If more than one family member is being tested that day the same email address may be used, but each person must register individually. Do not register until the day of the test as questions about symptoms are asked. A QR code is emailed that will be scanned on-site by National Guard staff. If you don’t register online you will still be tested, but it will take more time. More information can be found at marinettecounty.com, under “News” on the homepage. Individuals tested will be advised to limit contact with others until they have their test result. To keep our businesses and schools open everyone needs to remain vigilant and follow the protocols established by the CDC: wear a mask in public, wash your hands frequently or use hand sanitizer, maintain physical distancing, and stay home as much as you can, but especially if you are not feeling well.
