Letter to Parents/Guardians/Caregivers – COVID-19 Case(s) in the School March 23, 2021 This letter is to notify you that [a] student[s] and/or staff member[s] at Goodman-Armstrong Creek School District has tested positive for COVID-19. The confirmed case involves a staff member at GAC High/Middle School. We are actively working with the local County Health Department to quickly identify, notify, and quarantine any students or staff who may have come into close contact with them and who may be at risk of getting sick. We are also cleaning and disinfecting the school to control the spread of illness. For now, school will be scheduled to remain open until further notice. Please take the steps necessary to monitor and manage any COVID-related signs and symptoms displayed by your child(ren). Keep them home if symptoms as described below are present, and contact the local county health department and/or your medical provider for further guidance. About COVID-19: COVID-19 is an illness caused by a new coronavirus. It spreads from person to person through droplets created when we cough, sneeze, talk, sing or laugh. Most people, especially young people, who get COVID- 19, have mild illness, similar to having a cold or the flu. However, in others it can cause severe illness, such as pneumonia. Symptoms of COVID-19 may include the following: • Fever (temperature 100.4°F or higher) • Cough • Trouble breathing • Chills • Muscle/body aches • Loss of sense of taste or smell • Runny nose or nasal congestion • Fatigue • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea The CDC’s website has good information about COVID-19: www.cdc.gov/coronavirus. What to Expect: If your child had close contact with a person with COVID-19, you will receive a separate letter with special instructions about monitoring symptoms, testing, and how to keep others in your home from getting sick. If your child did not have close contact with a person with COVID-19 in our school, you will not receive another letter. However, everyone in your household should continue to stay home as much as possible, wash their hands frequently, keep 6 feet away from others, wear a mask or cloth face covering in public, watch for symptoms of COVID-19, and seek medical care when sick. If you know your child has an underlying health condition, you may wish to discuss the option of switching to online instruction with your healthcare provider. Someone from the local County Health Department may reach out to you with questions. Please assist with them as they work to investigate and control COVID-19 in our school. Prevent Further Spread: The following guidelines will help to prevent further spread of illness at our school: • Notify the school if your child is diagnosed with COVID-19. • Notify the school if your child had contact with someone who you know was diagnosed with COVID-19. • Keep students home from school if they are sick. • Encourage good habits: frequent handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, use of face coverings in public, and staying home as much as possible. After much work we finally have our cnc plasma cutter up and running. A huge thank you again to the Alumni Association for the donation to purchase it and thank you again to Tom and Jake from Armstrong Creek Electric for supplying our power needs. Our students our so grateful.

Middle school students are learning about the ring of fire, the earthquakes and volcanoes that are located there, and how plate tectonics are tied in!

The Autos class had an opportunity to install a new hitch on Ms. Paulson's car yesterday. This was a great project because the students were installing on a newer vehicle which included more prior planning and finishing to give it a more professional look. Great job!

Here are some of the projects the 8th grade woods class has finished this week, wood cups made on the lathe and wood chess boards. Their skills and techniques are improving every day, great job.

Our middle school students modeled tectonic plate movement with graham crackers and frosting.

Here is some welds from a Welding 1 student who has really been putting the practice in lately and it shows. Great steady technique, keep up the great work!

The 8th Grade Woods class has been learning residential electrical wiring along with their wood projects. They have been learning the basics of electricity and laying out circuits on a studded wall. The smiles on their faces when their circuits work is great to see.

The first Patriot boys basketball tournament game will be held at GAC on Friday, Feb. 19. 4 spectators are allowed per player’s household. Doors open at 6:15pm. Game starts at 7pm. Cost is $6.00 per person. The game can be viewed on Goodman-Pembine Patriot Athletic page.
